Gary Braden
CEO
Gary Braden is a second-generation leader in the furniture industry, bringing five decades of experience to the business his father, McKinley Braden, founded in 1956. Taking the helm in 1977, he has dedicated his career to the industry, serving as past President of the National Wholesale Furniture Association and as the youngest-ever President of the Association of Furniture Distributors.
A Vol For Life, Gary was a scholarship football player for the University of Tennessee from 1973 to 1976. His leadership extends beyond business and sports into his community, where he has served as President and current Board Member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He is also a leader at Concord Baptist Church and actively supports faith-based organizations such as Men of Valor, Street Hope, and KICKO.
By his side every step of the way, Gary’s wife, Karen Braden, has played an integral role in building both the business and their family. Together, they have poured their hearts into Braden’s Furniture, shaping it into the trusted, family-centered company it is today.
With decades of experience and a deep passion for both furniture and community, Gary continues to lead Braden’s Furniture with integrity, vision, and a commitment to excellence.

Nick Braden
PRESIDENT
As President of Braden’s Furniture, Nick Braden oversees our beautiful showroom in Turkey Creek and supports our talented team of design associates. His passion for creating an exceptional customer experience, combined with his keen eye for design, has helped shape Braden’s into the business it is today.
Nick joined Braden’s in 2002 after graduating from Carson-Newman University, where he was a scholarship player on their championship football team. Outside of work, he and his wife, Michelle, are deeply involved in the Knoxville real estate market. Michelle is a top realtor in the area, and together, they have recently partnered in a brokerage, further expanding their footprint in the industry.
Nick is also an active member of Concord Baptist Church and an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hunting and fishing. With a deep commitment to excellence in both furniture and real estate, he continues to lead Braden’s Furniture with energy, vision, and a dedication to the family legacy.

Alexander Braden
PRESIDENT
With a passion for design, user experience, and technology, Alexander Braden brings a fresh perspective to Braden’s Furniture. Partnering with Nick, he is focused on building upon the family legacy while introducing innovative ideas that will shape the future of the business.
Furniture and interior design are in his blood, and he has a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, quality, and classic design that stands the test of time. Alexander has 15 years of experience in design strategy, user experience, and technology, working with Fortune 100 companies to transform their approach to innovation. His work has spanned industries including cybersecurity, healthcare, finance, and retail, always with a focus on creating thoughtful, user-centered experiences.
Alexander’s wife, Breyna, is also a talented designer, sharing his passion for beautiful, functional spaces. Together, they bring a keen eye for detail and a love for timeless design to both their professional and personal lives.
Now, as President of Braden’s Furniture, Alexander is excited to blend his expertise with the company’s rich heritage, ensuring a customer experience that is both timeless and cutting-edge.

With 40 years of experience in the furniture industry, Ray is a true veteran of the business. He leads our best-in-class Patio & Rug Department, bringing expertise, passion, and a commitment to quality that our customers trust.
A dedicated sports fan, Ray loves cheering on the University of Tennessee and Grace Christian football programs. He is also an active member of First Baptist Church.

Our Story Begins
Building a Legacy in Wholesale Furniture
Braden’s Furniture was founded by McKinley & Mildred Braden on May 1, 1956, in Knoxville, TN. For more than three decades, Braden’s Wholesale Furniture Co., Inc. operated as a true wholesale distributor, serving independent retail furniture stores across seven states. With a designer showroom in downtown Knoxville and a traveling sales team, the company built a strong reputation for quality, service, and craftsmanship—laying the foundation for the Braden’s legacy that continues today.

Growth & Expansion in Knoxville
In 1982, the Braden family expanded their footprint in the Knoxville furniture market by acquiring Fowler Bros. Furniture Co. Just a few years later, in 1989, they opened Knoxville’s largest furniture store—a massive 110,000-square-foot showroom on North Peters Road. This bold move solidified Braden’s reputation as a premier destination for quality home furnishings in East Tennessee.

Expanding Horizons with Global Imports
After a transformative trip to China and Taiwan in 1985, Gary Braden founded Associated Furniture Importers (AFI), bringing high-quality furniture parts to Knoxville. AFI specialized in assembly and cartoning, supplying retail dealers across the Southeast, including Sam’s Wholesale. This venture marked a new chapter in Bradens legacy, combining global sourcing with local craftsmanship to expand the business’s reach and impact.

In 2009, Braden’s introduced a unique concept store in the newly developed Turkey Creek area, designed to cater to a modern, younger audience. This beautifully built space was created with a focus on different lifestyles, offering a fresh take on furniture and home design while staying true to Braden’s commitment to quality and craftsmanship.
A New Chapter
Growth Through Change
After the economic downturn and major I-40 construction, Braden’s made the difficult decision to say goodbye to our beloved downtown store in 2009. Embracing change, we consolidated into our Turkey Creek location, bringing together the best of what we do under one roof. This transition allowed us to refine our offerings, with a strong focus on outdoor furniture and rugs, while continuing to provide the quality and craftsmanship our customers expect. Though we closed one chapter, we opened another—one that continues to shape the Braden’s experience today.
