The Norwegian Art of Comfort
Stressless began in 1971, when the Ekornes family introduced a recliner built around an idea that sounds obvious only in hindsight: a chair should move with you, not against you. That is not marketing language. The position is drawn from NASA research into how the body settles in the absence of gravity, where muscles and joints relax into a neutral, stress-free pose. The design world noticed: Adam was named a Red Dot Award winner in 2025, with the jury praising how its Scandinavian-influenced lines stay quietly harmonious even as the engineering inside works hard.
